No rest for the scams!
Fake ads, fake online support… No rest for scammers! More than ever, stay alert.
Trending scams
To help you see more clearly, here are the scams currently circulating online, and the right reflexes to avoid falling into the trap. See also our guide to avoiding bank fraud.
The fake PCS online support scam
Scammers are full of ideas when it comes to getting hold of your personal or banking information. As a reminder, there is only one number to contact customer service: 0 811 880 200, and only one email address: contact@creacard.net.
If someone contacts you on social media, make sure you are dealing with PCS's official accounts (blue badge on Facebook and Instagram). No adviser will ever ask you for your card's banking details or the login details of your “My account” area.
The (too) tempting ad
Dating and classified ad sites are full of very attractive profiles that often seem unreal… They are often scammers. Be careful, and never send money or a top-up voucher to someone you met online.
A classic: phishing
This scam aims to steal your personal data online (login details, banking data, official documents). It usually relies on a fake email that appears to come from a trusted source (bank, family benefits office, tax office…) with an alarming subject line: “account restricted”, “your bank card is blocked”, “order out for delivery”…
If in doubt, do not reply and do not click any link in the email. Alert the organisation concerned by forwarding them the message.
The right reflexes
- Ask yourself whether it makes sense for a stranger to promise you the moon. If it's too good to be true, it probably is.
- Take the time to check the contact details of the person you are dealing with. Scammers mainly communicate by email, often with spelling mistakes.
- Do not share any personal data without checking who you are dealing with.
- Do not give, pay or transfer money to a stranger you met online.
- Pay on secure websites: check for the padlock in the address bar.
I am the victim of a scam
If you think your PCS card details have been compromised, lock your card by text message by sending VERR followed by a space and the last 4 digits of your card to:
- 07 57 57 55 55 (PCS Chrome)
- 06 01 78 78 78 (PCS Black or Virtual)
- 07 50 50 55 05 (PCS Absolut)
Then quickly contact an adviser on 0 811 880 200, who will explain how to replace your card. For any question, we are available Monday to Saturday via Facebook Messenger, by email at contact@creacard.net or by phone on 0 811 880 200 (€0.05/min). More information in the Security and frauds section.
Stay alert,
The PCS team
